“Then his wife said to him, “Do you still hold fast to your integrity? Curse God and die!” ” Job 2:9 (NKJV)
We hear a lot about Job and the trials brought about by Satan. However, when Satan killed Job’s sons and daughters they were also the sons and daughters of his wife. When God allowed Satan to bring boils upon Job’s body, it affected his wife too.
However, according to scripture, she did not respond to the trials with the same trust in God that Job did. Yes, she lost a lot during this time period, just like Job.
Job’s response to his wife’s statement: “But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God, and shall we not accept adversity?” In all this Job did not sin with his lips.” Job 2:10 (NKJV)
What can I learn from the experience of Job’s wife? I need to take Job’s counsel to heart. It doesn’t matter whether we are receiving God’s richest blessings or experience the times when He allows Satan to bring calamities upon us. Our God is still the only good, true God. Sometimes God allows bad things to happen to help us grow spiritually. Sometimes, like in Job’s case, it is to be a witness to someone else. We will never know the full picture of events here on earth until we meet our Saviour, face-to-face. At that time He will answer all of our questions (if any remain that really matter at that time)
