Wash Me Clean

“And Solomon brought up the daughter of Pharaoh out of the city of David unto the house that he had built for her: for he said, My wife shall not dwell in the house of David king of Israel, because the places are holy, whereunto the ark of the LORD hath come.” 2 Chronicles 8:11 (NKJV)

There has been a long gap between yesterday’s post (1 Chronicles 7) and today’s post. It takes time to read through each chapter and verse to determine if there are any significant women mentioned. Some don’t have names and others may have a name, but nothing significant is mentioned about them. Chronicles seems to just tell the same stories or at least some of the same stories mentioned in the books of Kings.

In today’s text it references one of Solomon’s wives, the daughter of Pharaoh. Even though he had asked God for wisdom and God granted him wisdom above any other human being before or after, he didn’t make good choices when it came to women. What is interesting and important to look at is that Solomon recognized that Pharoah’s daughter was not worthy of living in the house of David, king of Israel because of her heritage and her lifestyle choices.

What can I learn from this text today? I may not always make the best choices. I know I haven’t in the past. I keep asking God to help me make better choices each morning for that day. However, if I recognize that I have made an irreversible choice, I can choose to keep holy things separate from unholy things. God alone has the ability to show me through the promptings of the Holy Spirit which choices I’ve made that need to not be brought into the home I’ve set aside for the Lord. Once I recognize that there is a distinction, I need to honor God in all that I do and say.
