Purity in Life’s Choices

“Come out from among them
And be separate, says the Lord.
Do not touch what is unclean,
And I will receive you.” 2 Corinthians 6:17 (NKJV)

I was not aware until recently that the text in 2 Corinthians is actually taken or paraphrased from Isaiah 52:11. I believe that in order to understand any Bible text we need to look at the context of what comes before and after the verse, not pick and choose verses out of context. What is the context here?

“Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?” 2 Corinthians 6:14
This encourages me to be separate from the lawlessness of the “world.” As I look at even just the headlines of the “world” today it is enough to depress me. There is so much lawlessness and darkness. As a Christian I should be separate from any influences which would separate me from the Lord.

“And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said:
“I will dwell in them
And walk among them.
I will be their God,
And they shall be My people.” 2 Corinthians 6:16 (NKJV)

Listen to Bill and the Bloomers as they sing “Your Body is the Temple of the Lord.”
