Proverbs 31 Woman

” Who can find a virtuous wife?
For her worth is far above rubies. Proverbs 31:10 (NKJV)

As a young wife and mother I felt condemnation every time I would read Proverbs 31 and see just how far from the virtuous wife I measured up. I never came even close. Self-condemnation filled my heart and tore away at any attempts I made to do better.

It has taken me a long time to find God’s grace in this passage. I want my husband (and others) to find that they can trust me. I want to have good intentions rather than evil intentions toward my family and others. I try to be productive during my waking hours. That may look differently in different situations.

A woman who takes good care of any children in the home is being productive. Showing the children by example to be productive with time and resources. If the woman works outside the home, she needs to be twice as productive because she needs to be productive at work (to keep her job) and then needs to be productive in very little time at home to get everything done that is necessary to maintain the home and family needs.

She cares about others outside of the family. She does what she can to help those less fortunate while staying within her own family’s budget and resources.

In all of these aspects, God does not require us to be perfect since only God is perfect. He only asks us to do the best we can with the resources we have available to us at the time. God makes up for what we lack when we do the best we can. That’s where His grace comes in. I’m so thankful today for God’s grace.
