“Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine
In the very heart of your house,
Your children like olive plants
All around your table. Psalm 128: 3 (NKJV)
This chapter of Psalms begins with the phrase “everyone who fears the Lord.” I do not believe it is talking about being afraid of God. I think it is more of a reverent awe of God. Understanding that God is way, way above anyone else or anything else. He is the ultimate of everything imaginable.
If a wife has a reverent awe of God, then she becomes the source of joy in her home. Her husband and children are blessed because joy is contagious. It spreads to all who experience the kindness and love. God is the source of all kindness, love, mercy, and forgiveness. When we reverently behold His character we become like the one we admire. Then that kindness, love, mercy and forgiveness flow out to those we spend time with too.
What does God look like to you? Are you becoming like the God you serve? Listen to Chris Tomlin as he sings “Our God.“
