In God’s Time

“When Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the royal heirs.” 2 Kings 11:1 (NKJV)

What mother or grandmother in their right mind would kill all of her son’s children? What kind of influence did she have on her son when he was growing up? Is it any wonder that Ahaziah had turned out to be a wicked king when his mother was so violent as to kill all of the grandchildren?

What is the lesson for me to understand from this woman’s story? My influence affects not only those in my direct family, those who live in my home, but it also affects all those who are in a close relationship with me.

If I truly want to live in accordance with God’s character, I need to make sure that I treat all those around in the same way that Christ treats me – with love, compassion, and forgiveness. However, God has limits to his compassion. There is a time of accountability if I refuse to repent of wrong doings and wrong thoughts. Grace is not cheap! It cost the life of my Saviour. There will be a time of accountability for each person – in God’s timing.
