God’s So Wonderful

“But Jehosheba, the daughter of King Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him away from among the king’s sons who were being murdered; and they hid him and his nurse in the bedroom, from Athaliah, so that he was not killed.” 2 Kings 11:2 (NKJV)

When the enemy makes a plan to destroy God’s people, God is ahead of the game. God knew Jehosheba’s heart and she took Joash, her sister Ahaziah’s son, an heir to the throne, and hid him and his nurse so that he wasn’t killed. This was dangerous for her to do, because if she her actions had been noticed, she could have just as easily been included with those being executed by the grandmother.

God helped keep Joash safe in the bedroom with his nurse for 6 years! That in itself is amazing if you’ve ever spent time with a baby who grows into being a toddler, and then ready to start school. These kids seem to have an excess of energy (that I would love to patent and then access for when we age!)

In the year that Joash turned 7 years old, Jehoiada, a prominent priest in Judah, brought the bodyguards and escorts into the house of the Lord. After having made a covenant with them, he showed them Joash and revealed his parentage.

Jehoiada created a complex plan to be executed on the Sabbath. All of them, both on-duty and off-duty, would be assigned to protect Joash. Jehoiada provided them the weapons of King David that were kept in the House of the Lord.

The plan was put into action that Sabbath. A crown was placed on Joash’s head and he was anointed as king of Judah. The plan only succeeded because of God’s protection and the bravery of Jehosheba in hiding her nephew.

What challenges are you facing today? God is greater than any challenge we could ever face. He can make even the most timid person who trust in God to be brave and strong in the Lord.
