“Now when the Queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerning the name of the LORD, she came to test him with hard questions.” 1 Kings 10:1 (NKJV)
It was examination time for Solomon! The Queen of Sheba came to test him with hard questions, but God was also testing him. God wanted to know if Solomon would give God the glory or take the praise to himself.
Solomon answered all of the queen’s questions with great wisdom. Yet he showed her all the wealth he had accumulated. Queen of Sheba gave Solomon much in the way of gifts, but Solomon also gave her gifts – all she desired.
Solomon failed to point the Queen of Sheba to God as the provider of all good things. He had the opportunity to be a living witness to God’s goodness. Years later this visit by the Queen of Sheba would come to bite Israel because they had seen the wealth, but not the living God.
The Queen had honest questions and deserved honest answers. When individuals come to me asking honest questions, do I point them to the God of Heaven or take the praise to myself? Who gets the glory in my daily conversations? Only God deserves glory and honor.
