“Get wisdom! Get understanding! Do not forget, nor turn away from the words of my mouth. Do not forsake her, and she will preserve you; Love her, and she will keep you.” Proverbs 4:5-6 (NKJV)
Reading through Proverbs, I noticed that Wisdom is always referred to as a female. When Solomon was asked by God what gift he would like, he asked for wisdom to rule God’s people wisely. I decided to dig deeper. The Hebrew word translated here as wisdom is a feminine word, grammatically speaking.
I cannot claim to have any great insight directly from God on this matter. However, I would like to suggest that everything in nature, in God’s world has a balance. What we think of when we use the word “wisdom” may help to balance out the masculine characteristics that we picture when we think of God being all powerful, all knowing, all … everything. Having all knowledge without the wisdom to use the knowledge is worthless. Maybe God is trying to clue us into the need for balance even within our understanding of “God.”
This is a very, very limited analogy and definitely should not be taken any further. However, it is worthwhile to let our minds be touched by the Holy Spirit in prayer, asking for guidance to determine if there is a lesson here for us to learn.
Scripture says that every word in the Bible is there for a purpose. There is something for us to learn. What is God communicating to you when He tells you to get wisdom?
