Father of Lies
Father of Lies

Father of Lies

“You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.” John 8:44 (NKJV)

Eve’s story gives me another take-away point – Jesus was talking to a group of Jews who seemed to be trying to trick him into saying something they could accuse him of. During that conversation he made the statement recorded above. Jesus said that the devil is the father of lies. God does not lie, but the enemy always lies. The Bible says that lying is a sin and God doesn’t sin. When I start thinking about anything that is not in agreement with the Bible, I need to consider the source. If it doesn’t agree with the Bible, it is from the father of lies and I need to reject those thoughts.

This morning in the devotional blog I mentioned that we are in a spiritual battle. When anyone is in a battle of any kind, it is important to stay focused, stay alert. Why? Because one moment of letting down my guard and I could lose not only the battle, but the war for my soul.
How can I stay alert and focused? I choose to start my day with a talk with God – thanking Him for taking care of me through the night and asking Him to direct my words and actions throughout the day to bring glory to Him. After prayer, I find it helpful to spend time in God’s Word – that’s His love letter to me, telling me how I can stay out of trouble – IF I follow His guidelines -His laws. I can trust God because He is my Creator and Redeemer. He only wants what is best for me – for eternity!
