Don’t Entertain the Enemy

In yesterday’s blog, you may have noticed that Eve stayed at the tree and had a rather lengthy conversation with the enemy before she reached up and took the forbidden fruit. That hesitation – sticking around to find out what the enemy had to say was all that was needed to insert the wedge of doubt in Eve’s mind.

You and I are in a spiritual war – a battle to determine what God’s character is really like. Do we believe God or the enemy? What is the basis of our belief? Eve was on the front-line! She made a choice to doubt God and entertain the enemy. She lived to regret that choice. God provided a way of redemption for Eve – through Jesus Christ our Creator and Redeemer. That way of redemption is available to you and me today too.

What can I learn from Eve’s entertainment of the enemy? It is never safe to hang around anyone or anything when they are not in agreement with God. I always have the power of choice as to who I will listen to – at least until I forfeit that choice by deliberate actions.

I can also learn that no matter what choices I make, I can choose to leave behind poor choices and make a new choice to allow God to have control over my life, to purify my heart by cleansing it with the blood of Jesus Christ. We have not fallen so far from God’s presence that if we truly repent (turn 180 degrees) we can’t be redeemed. As long as there is breath – there is hope!
