Don’t Discount God

Abram was 86 years old when Hagar gave birth to Ishmael (Genesis 16:16). He was 99 years old when God came to remind him of the promise to have unnumbered descendants, but Sarai still had not become pregnant (Genesis 17:1). During the 13 years since Ishmael’s birth Hagar had been the one who had been able to provide an heir for Abram, but God did not count Ishmael as the heir of the covenant.

At this time God changes both Abram and Sarai’s names to Abraham and Sarah. Abraham’s name means father of many nations and Sarah’s name means mother of many nations. From a human perspective, nothing had changed. They are both past the usual age of bearing children. However, God has no limits!

God was going to do something that from a human perspective couldn’t be done. He promised and it happened. What in your life seems impossible? What in my life seems impossible? With God all things are possible (Matthew 19:26)!

When the enemy comes to me in my personal situation and tells me that I can’t do something or that God can’t do something, I need to respond to him that my God has no limits! He fulfills all of His promises. Sometimes I may misunderstand what the Holy Spirit is trying to prompt me to accomplish, but that’s on me not the Lord. There are many things that from a human perspective are unreasonable for me to believe that I can accomplish at this point of my life. However, my Creator and Redeemer has the last say about what can and can’t be accomplished IF I submit to Him and allow Him to work in me for His glory.

I’ve always loved the song “I Surrender All” as do many others. However, have you heard the story behind the song? Check out the story
