Daughters of Jerusalem

“The Daughters of Jerusalem
We will be glad and rejoice in you.
We will remember your love more than wine.” Song of Solomon 1:4- middle part (NKJV)4

Who might these daughters of Jerusalem be? If we are reading the story literally written by Solomon, it could refer to young, unmarried women in the royal household. They could be fictional characters written into the story by Solomon as advisors or supporting characters to his main story or theme.

If we are looking at the allegory love story between Christ and his believers, it could be the body of believers at any given time in history. As believers in Christ we are to be glad and rejoice over good things happening to others in the body of Christ.

Regardless of which view, it seems apparent that they are rejoicing about the relationship that is growing between Solomon and the young country maiden – the Shulamite.

What can I learn from the daughters of Jerusalem so far in this book? When relationships between a man and a woman develop in a healthy way, all those who know both of them are able to be happy and support the growing relationship.

When we see individuals discover God’s love for them and it powerfully changes their lives as God’s love completely fills every nook and crevice that has been empty, we also rejoice with the angels in heaven
