“You are all fair, my love,
And there is no spot in you.” Song of Solomon 4:7 (NKJV)
My Beloved’s response to the country maiden is so rewarding. She felt that she was less than worthy of him because she had been working in the vineyard and her skin had darkened. Those in the palace had very fair skin because they did no work.
There may be a lesson here for us today. If we hold ourselves apart to be perceived as perfect, maybe we are actually less valuable to the Kingdom of God. Maybe those who get dirty by getting in the trenches, working on the streets with obvious sinners are actually more help to the Kingdom of God.
Look at Christ’s example. He mingled with the common people of his day. He didn’t spend his time just sitting in the synagogue reading God’s Word and praying. He was actively involved in the community. Yes, Christ spent time with his Father in prayer and communion with him, more than most of us, I dare say. Yet, during the time when the common people were available, he too was available for them.
Lord, help me to be more available to be used by You to bring Your light to this world that is in darkness. Use me to reflect Your character to others. I long for you to say when you come again that there is no spot in me because Your righteousness is covering me completely.
Listen to this song written, composed and sung by Andrew Culverwell in 1982 – “Cover Me Lord with Your Presence.”
