” “And concerning Jezebel the LORD also spoke, saying, ‘The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel.’ ” 1 Kings 21:23 (NKJV)
Remember in yesterday’s devotional how Jezebel signed her husband’s name and seal to the orders to murder Naboth? Well, God had a consequence of her actions. The prophet Elijah came to Ahab and told him that he had angered the Lord. He also gave very specific information about what would happen to Jezebel’s body when she died.
God’s judgment came relatively quickly upon Ahab and he died in battle. He tried to trick the enemy army by dressing as a common person rather than as the king, but he was struck during battle and died on the battle field (1 Kings 22:29-37)
Jezebel didn’t receive her consequence quickly at all. God gave her time to repent, but she did not. I don’t understand how her conscience could have allowed her to continue her wicked ways, especially after seeing prophecy fulfilled against her husband. Yet she hardened her heart and became more and more wicked.
Lord, give me a clean heart that longs to follow after you. Take away all desires to do anything that would offend you. Let me learn lessons from the Bible of what not to do. Help me to repent quickly and change my behaviors to be acceptable in your sight.
