“Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain, and said, “I have acquired a man from the LORD.” Genesis 4:1 (NKJV)
The next passage mentioning Eve is one that brought her great joy. Have you ever wondered why the Bible doesn’t mention any children before Adam and Eve were cast out of the Garden of Eden? The Bible isn’t clear as to how long after Creation Week before Eve’s conversation with the serpent. I choose not to speculate, but to put this and other similar questions on my list to ask Christ about when I can see Him face to face.
In your mind, think with me about what must have been going through Adam and Eve’s thoughts at this time. No child had ever been born in the Garden of Eden. They had left the garden in disgrace after doubting God and then directly disobeying Him too.
Yet … in the back of Adam and Eve’s mind they had to be remembering God’s words to them before leaving Eden.
“And I will put enmity
Between you and the woman,
And between your seed and her Seed;
He shall bruise your head,
And you shall bruise His heel.” Genesis 3:15 (NKJV)
What was God promising to them? I’m sure at the time they had no clue. I’m sure I wouldn’t have known that this was the promise of the Redeemer. Bible verses don’t tell us all that was said at the time. But being a woman, I’m sure that Eve pondered the words of God over and over to find the hope for something better than the death of plants and animals all around them.
What can I take from this passage? God keeps His promises and nothing is impossible with my God.
