Speak the Name of Jesus

“Jehoram was thirty and two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, like as did the house of Ahab: for he had the daughter of Ahab to wife: and he wrought that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD.” 2 Chronicles 21:5-6 (NKJV)

Yes, the Bible points out that Jehoram reigned similar to the kings of Israel – doing evil in God’s sight. But notice the word “for” is used to explain why. He married the daughter of Ahab! We carry with us some behaviors and attitudes which are from the environment of our early childhood home. Ahab’s daughter had experienced parents who the Bible declares as being wicked. Jehoram at some point chose to be married to a woman who had grown up in an unhealthy environment.

Now, don’t get me wrong! Some people are able to come out of unhealthy environments and with God’s help make a 180 degree turn-around in their personal life. But, most do not. We tend to think that the home we grew up in is “normal.” We then do what we can to make our new home similar to what was normal growing up.

However, we are not locked into the lifestyle of our parents or guardians! With God’s help we can overcome any and all heredity and environmental influences.
