“Now two women who were harlots came to the king, and stood before him.” 1 Kings 3:16 (NKJV)
Solomon was a very wise man, gifted wisdom from the Lord. This story starts with two prostitute women coming before King Solomon asking for justice. They were both pregnant at the same time and gave birth to sons three days apart. One of the sons died during the night and both women claimed the living son was their son.
Solomon wisely said ” “Divide the living child in two, and give half to one, and half to the other.” 1 Kings 3:25 (NKJV) The responses of the two women told Solomon who the real mother was. You see, a real mother would never do anything to hurt her child. One woman said to go ahead and divide the living child in two, but the other said to not hurt the child. Solomon gave the child to the real mother.
What can I learn from the women in this story? It doesn’t pay to tell anything that isn’t true. God finds a way to have truth be told. Another lesson is that even when a wrong is being done to me, I can choose to do what is right for those involved. Choosing what is right may not always gain immediate rewards, but my Heavenly Father is the score-keeper! Everything will be handled in eternity.
