Redeemed by Faith

“But Joshua had said to the two men who had spied out the country, “Go into the harlot’s house, and from there bring out the woman and all that she has, as you swore to her.” And the young men who had been spies went in and brought out Rahab, her father, her mother, her brothers, and all that she had. So they brought out all her relatives and left them outside the camp of Israel.” Joshua 6:22-23 (NKJV)

Rahab had kept her part of the bargain. She did not betray the spies and was faithful to put the scarlet cord in the window. She had gathered her family members and other relatives into her house. She was a faithful witness for God. God rewarded her faithfulness by sparing her life and those of her family who accepted Rahab’s words of impending doom and hope of a rescue.

Rahab had lived in shame in her community. We are not told the reason she was a prostitute. God knows the back-story that we don’t need to know. He valued her enough to save her and her family out of all the people in Jericho who died that day. She demonstrated faith in what the spies told her.

You and I may not be valued by those we spend time with, but God values us! God values us so much that he sent his one and only son, Jesus Christ, to show us a better way and to redeem us so that one day we can live with him for all eternity. I choose to live by faith in Jesus Christ.
