When Troubled, Go to the Lord
When Troubled, Go to the Lord

When Troubled, Go to the Lord

“Isaac prayed to the LORD for his wife, because she was unable to conceive children; and the LORD granted his prayer and Rebekah his wife conceived [twins].” Genesis 25:21 (NKJV)

First, Sarai couldn’t conceive children and then now Rebekah, Isaac’s wife, couldn’t conceive children either. God mercifully answered Isaac’s prayer for his wife, and she conceived not one child, but two. Even in the womb though, the twins struggled with each other (Genesis 25:22).
Rebekah’s response was to go to the Lord! Oh, how many nights I should have gone to the Lord first instead of trying to resolve situations on my own. I’m too much of a Type A person. I see a task that needs done and typically I will just start trying to use human knowledge to resolve things. If I would only go to the Lord first and let Him take charge and leave all my cares at his feet.

Did the Lord hear Rebekah? Oh, yes! He answered her. God listens to women, especially mothers. Our hearts are by nature inclined to seek the best for our children. They bring life and light to our lives. What I need to remember is that God loves my children even more than I love them – and that’s hard to imagine. I need to fully trust God with my loved ones. He knows what is best for eternity.

Lord, forgive me for the many times I’ve not come to you immediately with my concerns. Forgive me for not trusting that you know the end from the beginning and you have the only perfect solutions to every situation. Help me to trust you today … one day at a time.
