“Then Abram and Nahor took wives: the name of Abram’s wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor’s wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran the father of Milcah and the father of Iscah.” Genesis 11:29 (NKJV)
A lot of history happens between Genesis 4 and Genesis 11. The inhabitants of the earth seemed to forget who God was. The flood has come and gone. The Tower of Babel was started, then came to a screeching halt by God’s intervention.
Now we are introduced to Abram and Sarai as well as Nahor and Milcah. “But Sarai was barren; she had no child.” Genesis 11:30 (NKJV). Sarai’s story touches the hearts of many today who long to give birth to a child, but never achieve holding their own baby in their arms. Sarai experienced the social shame of not bearing Abram a child. Children were to be a blessing to the home, a show of God’s favor. But she was past the age of child bearing and was giving up hope.
What situation in my life have I reached the point of hopelessness of seeing my dreams come to fruition? Dreams I had when I was young and invincible that have grown dim because from a human perspective too much time has gone by. I’m too old now. I am too weak. There is too little time left on this earth for me to accomplish those dreams.
Sarai’s story brings renewed hope to my dreams and life. I may not see my dreams fulfilled here on earth. However, God knows my heart’s desire and when those dreams are in accordance with His plans for my life they will be fulfilled beyond my wildest imagination. I choose to trust God with my dreams and their fulfilment.
