” For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” Romans 8:5-6 (NKJV)
The Greek word used here translated spiritually – πνε μα – is interesting in that it is a neutral noun, meaning neither male nor female. It could refer to the Holy Spirit and has been translated as that in some other places. Sometimes it refers to the way or methods of working of the Holy Spirit.
In this text, what does Paul want the Christians to be like? Whatever spiritually minded is specifically meaning, it is described as life and peace. Well, Christ described himself as the Life in John 14:6. Could it mean that when we strive to become like Christ (spiritually minded) that then we have life and peace?
If I take all the Bible verses we’ve studied during December on purity, since the Bible does not contradict itself, to be carnally minded which results in death is following the enemy’s game plan. And then to be spiritually minded, in contrast, would to be following God’s game plan.
